Insect Science Pro MTB Team

⚡️ New Bike Day ⚡️

Rush Sports is proud to announce an exciting partnership with the Insect Science Pro MTB team with the ultra-light Santa Cruz Blur CC and Reserve Carbon 28 becoming the riders' bicycle and wheelset of choice for the remainder of the 2021 season and beyond.

Maxxis Tyres also joins the team as the official tyre supplier, ensuring maximum control and reliability in all conditions with the Rekon Race and Aspen 29 x 2.4" Wide Trail models proving most popular among team riders.

"We are very pleased to welcome Insect Science Mountain Biking to the Rush Sports family", says Rush Sports CEO Brandon Els.

"The Team will be competing in all major Mountain Bike races in Southern Africa on the 2022 Santa Cruz Bicycles Blur 4. Rush Sports looks forward to taking the Insect Science guys on a tour of our Santa Cruz Dealers in South Africa and integrating the Team in our #WeRide culture which we share with all Santa Cruz Owners."

The Blur CC XX1 RSV

Light as a feather with exceptional handling, not to mention the ability to comfortably carry two water bottles in the front triangle, the range topping Santa Cruz Blur CC XX1 RSV is the perfect machine to enable race winning performances across all MTB event categories: from World Cup XCOs to ultra marathon stage races like the Cape Epic.

Team Riders' First Impressions

Insect Science Pro MTB team riders CP van Wyk, Alan Gordon, Keagan Bontekoning and Arno du Toit* are thrilled that they will be competing in all major stage races and XCO events in Southern Africa as well as various international World Cup XCO events aboard Santa Cruz's most efficient and lightest ever dual suspension.

Read on for their first impressions of the Blur CC.

*Arno du Toit will move onto his Blur after completing existing contractual obligations.

CP van Wyk

Sending it on his Blur CC

From the first pedal stroke I got the impression that the Blur is a bike that wants to be ridden fast and doesn’t waste time going uphill, yet once you drop into a trail and point it downwards, you almost forget that you are on a 100mm race bike. It just wants you to let go of the brakes and SEND IT.

The 2.4WT Maxxis Rekon Race treads sit so well on the Reserve 28 wheels that I am yet to find the point at which things get sketchy on them, they are just so capable whilst still rolling fast.

I can't wait to race the Cape Epic and Wines2Whales on the Blur.

Alan Gordon

The U MTB Stage Race: 1st Overall

The U three day stage race - which took place between the 24th and 26th of September 2021 - was the perfect opportunity to test the Blur's handling and suspension over technical terrain under race conditions. It performed without a glitch and I was able to earn the new Blur's first victory on South African soil ... the perfect start to this new partnership.

Keagan Bontekoning

Silver at SA XCO Championships

I have been completely blown away by my initial impression of the Santa Cruz Blur. Not only is the attention to detail on the finishes highly impressive, but the bike handles like a dream. At last weekend's SA XCO Championships, it gave me a boost of confidence knowing that I had the incredibly strong but lightweight Reserve Carbon wheels paired to a set of Maxxis Aspens connecting me to the ground.

The Blur's performance over small bumps has impressed me the most. Its ability to absorb rough terrain hasn't compromised efficiency - it climbs like a beast. I am super excited to be racing this bike!

Keep an eye out for Team Insect Science as they pilot their rocket-ships in the 2021 Cape Epic and Wines2Whales stage races in October and November respectively.
